- [Voiceover] Hi, my name is Adam Wilbert, and I'd like to welcome you to Database Fundamentals: Administration. This is the last of four courses in the Database Fundamentals series, where we'll ease you into the world of information technology. In this course we're going to focus specifically on securing and backing up your databases. We'll start with looking at how users log into the system and explore the differences between Windows authentication and SQL Server authentication. Once the user is logged in, we'll use SQL Server Management Studio to explore the various roles and user permissions that you can enforce on your database objects.
Then we'll turn our attention to creating the all-important back-up plan. We'll see how SQL Server can streamline the process of making regular database back-ups, and we'll restore a database from a back-up to make sure the protocol is understood before a disaster strikes. Along the way I'll provide some helpful tips to working with SQL Server Management Studio as well as provide some insight into the way I work with databases through a couple of hands-on challenge and solution movies. We'll take it one step at a time to make sure that you've got a solid foundation that will support a lifelong journey in IT. Now, let's get started.
